Description
The Treat ‘Em Rough! Join the Tanks poster
“Treat ‘Em Rough! Join the Tanks” is a 1918 World War I recruiting poster for the United States Tank Corps by illustrator August William Hutaf. A furious black cat, claws out and teeth bared, springs across a sky of orange flame while British-style heavy tanks crash across the battlefield below. The Tank Corps had adopted the fighting black tomcat as its mascot, and Hutaf turned it into one of the most memorable recruiting images of the war.
This edition carries the local recruiting line “Open to fighting men, all classes 18 to 45, see recruiting officer, 436 Oliver Ave., Union Arcade”. It is a striking piece of armored warfare history for a study, office, den or game room, and a natural gift for anyone who has served in armor.
