The Americans! Join and Fight poster
“Americans! Join and Fight” is a 1918 World War I recruiting poster for the U.S. Army recruiting office at 660 Market Street, San Francisco. Signed and dated by Edwin de la Laing and printed by the Louis Roesch Co. of San Francisco, it shows a soldier swinging his rifle overhead as he charges forward beneath a huge American flag, while a wounded comrade with a bandaged head kneels and fires beside him. Biplanes cross a pale blue sky and barbed-wire stakes line the ground below.
Printed in San Francisco for local recruiting rather than national distribution, it is one of the scarcer American posters of the First World War, and a bold piece of West Coast military history for a study, office, den or game room.

Restored edition
Restored from an archival scan of an original 1918 print. Yellowed paper, stains, folds and tears were repaired and the sky blue, flag red and sand tones brought back, keeping the artist’s flat poster colour and the original lettering true to the original.
