Description
The Keep ’Em Going! railroad poster
“Keep ’Em Going!” is a World War I poster for America’s railroad shops. A black steam locomotive bearing a red, white and blue U.S. shield thunders toward the viewer while a caricatured Prussian soldier in a spiked helmet scrambles out of its path. The message beneath, credited to William G. McAdoo, Director General of Railroads, reads: “Every bad order locomotive is a Prussian soldier. Every live locomotive is an American soldier.”
The Library of Congress dates it to around 1917 and records Ketterlinus of Philadelphia as the printer. It is a bold, colourful piece of railroad and home-front history for a study, workshop, office or train room.
