The original French appeal
The edition listed as French Loan Rally reproduces Souscrivez! et nous aurons la victoire—an appeal to subscribe to the 1918 national loan. The Smithsonian’s Princeton collection records Simay as the artist and identifies Lloyds Bank France and National Provincial Bank France among the issuing details.
The tank pushes upward through damaged ground and wire. Its mass and steep angle make progress look forceful and difficult. The financial invitation appears above and below the machine, connecting the viewer’s contribution with the imagined advance.
A French design, not an American loan poster
The language, the national-loan heading and the banking information establish the poster’s French setting. Its place in this collection is as Allied wartime imagery. Translating the title helps explain the appeal, but the original wording remains important for identifying the historical design.
Compare it with Britain’s Tank Tour. Both use armour to make war finance visible. The British poster advertises a public attraction, while this French design concentrates on the tank’s movement toward victory.
