Description
The Keep Pouring It On… Hot! poster
Keep Pouring It On… Hot! was printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office for the Treasury’s Seventh War Loan, the bond drive that ran from 14 May to 30 June 1945. Two soldiers crouch in the jungle grass as a flamethrower sends a torrent of fire into an orange sky; one works the nozzle, the other covers him with a pistol. The orange band along the bottom carries the campaign line: 7th War Loan Drive starts today.
The Seventh was the first bond drive after Germany’s surrender, and the Treasury feared Americans would stop giving. The poster’s answer was to point at the Pacific, where the fighting on Okinawa was at its height and the flamethrower had become the weapon of the island war. The drive raised more than $26 billion, the largest total of any war loan.
The artist is not credited. Original copies measure about 30 × 44 inches.
